At Stanford West Less (Signage) Was More

Stanford, California

Repositioning the entire signage program of Stanford West was just one of the elements of this 638 unit, facility housing project across the street from the Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto; the rest had to do with upgrading the property’s visual image by reducing some of its visual clutter.

The Client was Alliance Residential, represented by Heather Wallace.

The team included Gordy Ross and Ted Luthin (of Ross Luthin Creative) and Weidner Architectural Signage.

The challenges were to design a signage program to complement the architectural features of the property (which was undergoing a transformation) to negotiate and navigate the exterior signage program through the City of Palo Alto, and to coordinate the signage removal and installation without creating confusion for the property’s residents and guests.

The solution was to implement a more elegant and illuminated design featuring sophisticated, complementary colors, and to introduce more durable materials while being cost effective.

Word on the street is that we’ve created and installed a beautiful, comprehensive signage program. We modestly agree!
